Professional Qualifications and Training
I trained initially at Ripon and York St. John, and then at Scarborough Pychotherapy Training Institute where I obtained the Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and the Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy.
As part of my ongoing professional development I've also undertaken a range of additional training, including training in Bereavement Counselling,; Brief Focal and Solution Focussed Therapy; Body Focussed Therapy; Creative Visualisation; Working with Trauma; Attachment and Sexuality: and introductions to the principles of Existential Therapy, Family & Systemic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I have more than 25 years interest in and personal experience of Mindfulness.
Professional Experience
I have lengthy experience working in private practice, with voluntary organisations and charities, and of providing counselling to employees of local organisations and via national Employee Assistance Programmes.
I have worked with NHS clients referred through the IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service in the East Riding.
I have provided counselling for employees of local authorities which has given me extensive experience counselling teachers, social workers and support workers, amongst others, and have provided counselling for Mental Health Services staff, via Employee Assistance Programmes.
I have been a counsellor for a Bereavement Counselling service, and for Yorkshire Mesmac providing counselling to LGBTQ clients.
Accreditation
I'm registered and accredited as a psychotherapist with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
Accredited Practitioner status means that the training I've completed meets the standards set by relevant professional bodies, and I've reached a specified level of professional experience. I've also undertaken my own personal therapy.
To maintain my professional accreditation I work within a Code of Ethics and Practise, I'm committed to ongoing training and development, and my practise is reviewed regularly by experienced colleagues and my professional organisation.
I adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Practise of Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute, which conforms to the Code of Ethics and Practise of UKCP
